Lucky/Hammie (Kyuranger): Still Here

When all else is gone, I'd still be here... — In Another Lifetime, Gary Valenciano

More tears fell from Hammie's eyes that seemed to have not stopped crying  for several days as she stared at the falling rain. It was both crazy and worrying to those who would see her, to be honest.

But she couldn't stop at all, though she tried several times. Nothing helped.

Hammie hadn't done anything to herself yet during those days that she could not stop crying. Yes, she would still do her chores and also eat. But after all that, tears would continue falling once more.

It was exhausting, and that was the truth.

Hammie flinched upon feeling something draped around her on the shoulder. When she looked, there was a familiar shawl placed over her shoulders, exuding that lovely vanilla scent that would make her smile.

Upon looking up, there was Lucky who already crouched beside her. It looked like he immediately sat there as soon as he placed that shawl on her.

"Thank you..." she could only say, even as a whisper.

Lucky smiled and nodded once before facing the view that, in all honesty, wasn't something she was truly appreciating at all. He was just there beside her. Perhaps waiting for her to say something or just talk about anything to ease her mind.

"I'm sorry for crying so much," she started to break the silence between them. She felt that an apology for her actions, first and foremost, was the most important at the moment.

"Why are you apologizing for grieving? That's not something you should be doing."

She didn't know how to properly react to that, even when she knew she was right. There was nothing to apologize. But she still caused trouble to them, and it was frustrating her to some extent.

"You don't have to force yourself to be happy when it's obvious that you couldn't and that it would be hard for you," he continued as he watched outside. "But don't forget that you still have to continue living for your sake and those that you love. Also for the ones who cared for you and loved you so much."

Hammie wanted to laugh at Lucky's words. Yes, she knew he was right about all of it. But it wasn't like she had lost the desire to live because of the grief. Before she could even stop herself, however, she smiled and shook her head.

A sight that Lucky was able to witness as soon as it happened.

"You're laughing! I don't think there was anything funny about what I said."

The smile on her face remained as she faced Lucky. "That's because you're talking as if I've given up on my life, you know."

"Well... you almost looked like that. If I'm wrong about that, I'm sorry."

"It's okay. I know you only cared." That was the truth. She did know that. But her emotions had been clouding her mind for quite some time now since the tragedy happened.

"I'm here, okay?" Lucky said, as assuring as he intended. "I'll always be... for you."

Hammie felt it. Her mind went blank after that, for some reason. But perhaps she needed that assurance, one way or another.

And with that, her heart felt safe.
