Okay. Now I have to say that this was an overdue book comment/review as I've already finished reading this around the end of March or the start of April. Wait. I still have to recall the exact date. But there's one thing I recall clearly about this book after reading this.
I was annoyed and irritated about Maria. Or Lavender, as she'd like
to call herself. Haha! And that feeling actually goes both ways -- good
and bad. Annoyed in a good way because of her tactless attitude, if I
interpreted it right. Irritated in a good way because even with that
attitude, I'd like to call her bold and fearless when it comes to her
opinion -- whether or not they were verbally expressed or just her diary
knowing the truth about them.
Now here comes the bad part. I don't like her insisting attitude and her air of being a know-it-all when it comes to certain aspects of life and school to the point of wanting to push them to other people who doesn't live the same life she does. At that point, she could really appear as a bad influence to others, as Emily's father pointed out, even though she insisted that she wasn't and that she was just being truthful. I still can't grasp Maria's reason as to why she lied to Emily about her lifestyle, though. Was she trying to impress? To boast? What for? If only she was as truthful to Emily as she did whenever she would write in her diary, then even with the distance and only letters to rely on, they could've still been friends.
I'm still glad that even with that attitude, though, Maria found a
friend in Terry -- who could already be a potential boyfriend. I just
noticed that she could be quite cynical when it comes to love and
anything relationship-related, huh? Romantically speaking, that is. I
laughed at the part where Maria took it literally when she read about
Kevin and Emily breaking up. Yes, she took it in a literal sense to the
point of commenting about bodies breaking into parts. I mean, seriously?
The one reason that made me buy this 2 years ago -- or almost 2 years
ago -- was because it's about diary. And when I took a peek of it, they
were really diary entries. Story of Maria's 16th year through a series
of diary entries in which she promised to be truthful. I mean, it should
be like that, right? It's a collection of one's personal thoughts, and
possibly the only one thing that could help you grow, at some point. And
anything diary or journal related is quite close to my heart as I do
this, as well. But I didn't think I'd have some fun reading a story that
is entirely out of diary entries. Maybe I should try writing a story
that way one of these days.
Okay. This entry got a little longer than expected for a book comment. I don't know what book will I finish reading next, but I'm currently reading "A Wrinkle In Time". Let's see if I'd be able to write a long book comment on that next time.
For now, let's enjoy the day. 😉💕
