My Thoughts:
It’s been so long since I last posted a book review. So this might turn out to be a little… less. If you know what I mean.
Now this one’s a little… witty. Or at least that’s how I’d like to say it. But I really love the story. The only downside was that I don’t know the story “Much Ado About Nothing” except for the title since the only work of Shakespeare that I’m familiar with was the classic “Romeo And Juliet”. Yes, the typical one. Maybe because I don’t read that much Shakespearean plays even as a kid. So when they said that “We Go Together” was a modernized version of “Much Ado About Nothing”, I’m seriously clueless. So at this point, I can’t really compare the two versions.
Anyway, I really like how the story went. A little fast-paced, for one. But I don’t mind that much. I like how Carla inserted flashbacks and for me, it wasn’t too distracting. It made the whole story and their pasts understandable.
The only thing that irked me completely was Don. Sure, you’d find people like him even in real life. But he’s the guy that I really want to punch in the gut. I don’t care if he’s cool and all. Or ladies swoon after him for having the voice of some guy I’m not exactly familiar with. I just hate people who really think they know it all. Only in the end, all they knew was to screw people’s lives with what they think they know. Honestly speaking, I prefer to sit down, keep quiet and let him talk all he want. And yet, none of what he said would actually register in my mind. Bad attitude, but somehow, it’s a good way to let them know I’m not interested.
I find Hiro funny to the point where I couldn’t help frowning and smiling at him having this “fumbly” and really clumsy gesture. Yes, I remained calling him fumbly and clumsy all throughout the story despite being a total jerk at one part. Or as I would like to say, an uncontrollable jerk. And it’s all because of Don. Again. Geez! This was the part where I truly want to punch him along with Hiro in the gut. But I’ll spare Hiro since…he’s a big man. Haha!
For Claudia, well… I really think she’s a good friend. Yes, she might have her crazy antics every now and then [or every so often] despite suffering from depression [which wasn’t so obvious]. But she’s really one of those people who supports a friend by being tricky and blunt at the same time. Wait, did that even make any sense? I’m sorry if it doesn’t. But anyway, I still like her.
Then there’s Bea and Ben. Both are too hardheaded for their own good to the point of going against each other by insulting and bickering. But I really love how their story started during their college days. I love how their story went when they became a couple [that fast or was it just me?]. The only thing I hate about them was that they’re hurting each other’s feelings [and okay, I’ll add their egos and pride, as well] by their bickering. Or at least I was the one who felt that way for them every time they bicker. But that was before the whole overhearing-other-people’s-conversation suddenly changed everything.
Okay. I guess I only talked [or wrote] more about the characters than the story plot. But overall, I fell in love with the story despite having zero knowledge about “Much Ado About Nothing”. Maybe at some point, I’ll find time to read the actual play.
Thanks for this story, Miss Carla!
Before I forgot. I actually noticed something while typing this down. Was it me or the author really like the name Ben? I remembered reading the name Ben in “Cities”, as well. I don’t know. I just thought I’d ask.
